Random acts of kindness is one of the coolest things you can do. It is so random. And kind. Those are two excellent things. Put them together, and you have a pretty killer combination. Whether it's a note or gift or paying for someone's meal, it sure makes a difference in someone's day, maybe even in their life. You never know! And that's the best part of the feel good act. Adam sets out breakfast for me all the time, because he knows I am horrible at remembering to eat the most important meal of the day. Every time I see breakfast laid out, it truly makes my day and reminds me how lucky I am, not just for what an amazing man I have, but what an amazing life I have. Sometimes, you just need reminding. What is something you have done or had done for you recently? Time to toot your own horn or someone else's! I love hearing those stories, it inspires me to be nicer. Not that I am a mean person, but there is always someone out there who needs some cheering up, and I always hope that I am the kind of person who will do that.

As I am hanging out with my family, who I don't get to see very often, due to the fact we live on opposite sides of the country, I have to laugh. We are so weird. And when we all get together, things get weirder! We have some good laughs, whether it's teasing my dad about booking flights to Denver rather than Dallas or yelling at the GPS to shut her mouth and having my mom think I was talking to her. Then having the rental car break down, which meant we didn't have to pay for the ridiculous parking at Niagara falls, as the courtesy car at the dealership dropped us off and picked us up. Gotta love road trips! This post is dedicated to my lovely, quirky family and to all the funny things we see and do.
As you can see, we are a bit of a crazy family. But I love it, and wouldn't change a thing! Thanks for reading! Jena xo Elemental Herbs Kids Camping Kit Gift Bag Set - $33.99 from: The Ultimate Green Store I am currently on vacation. It is wonderful. Three plane rides to get here, but we are here! It's where both my parents grew up, and so we took our son to meet his great grandma and other family members who are on the east side of this beautiful country. I love it here. One thing I am really noticing is the landscaping. Maybe it's the big oak trees that we don't get on the west side of the country that I'm noticing, or the beautiful landscaping, or the fact that I have landscaping on my mind. I think having a fresh look at something different is the key to finding your inspiration, which I am clearly taking advantage of. Once this vacation is sadly over, our plans are to build a deck and finish painting the trim on the house, and of course, when you do any outside work to the house, landscaping is right up there with it. So what better timing for an overload of beautiful landscaping inspiration? This is the first time I've been back to this park in probably eight years. I remember it being beautiful and enchanting, but when I see it again, I am totally inspired by it this time. Again, with having our landscaping dreams dancing through our heads, what better time to be on a vacation, pulling inspiration from this beautiful place? Funny side note about this pond in Canatara Park, when I was little I got chased by a Canadian goose into here and my grandfather had to rescue me. And this began my unreasonable fear of birds. So don't expect to see any fake flamingos in our future landscaping. (Sigh of relief for you, I'm sure!)
These trees are super quirky to me and I love them! They would be really fun on either side of a gate or a door. I have no idea what kind of trees they are yet, or if they would grow in a mountain climate, but I'd be willing to try.
This tree is awesome too. I am dying to have a willow tree in my yard, but I could settle for this tree as well. The whimsy of a the swaying branches really appeals to me; it is just is such a romantic tree. Possibly coming from the scene in cartoon movie Robin Hood when they carve their initials into the tree. That was a willow tree, if I'm not mistaken. If it wasn't, it should have been! Or Pocahontas, that for sure was a willow tree! Of course, we are always influenced by what we grew up with. This is my grandmother's front garden. After not seeing it for so long, it surprised me to see most, if not all of my favourite plants and made me realize how much of a connection there is. I love the use of natural rock for the garden steps. I want a front garden just like grandma's! And a back garden, just like grandma's! Hopefully, in the near to far future we will have some shots of our very own landscaping! Until then, happy reading! Jena xo Twisted Planter in Aluminum design by Capital Garden Products - $319.00 from: Burke Decor LLC For those of you who read about my zoo construction last week, I have to show you the grand opening of the teddy confinement chambers... aka the zoo. Thank you for voting on the colour choice! It became a combination of them all, and more, except for the black- brown as it just wasn't colourful enough for this project. Although I have to paint the bars still... What do you think? Brown- black or silver?? I will get to that later, once I peel those stupid stickers off the dowels. Seriously, who thought of that? I actually was contemplating sawing the dowels shorter as to avoid getting those stickers off. Laziness won, and I just left it for now.
So, there is the basically completed project! I hope you like it, and I hope those animals don't mind the crowded conditions. We would never get away with that in real life! (Nor should we....) Jena xo I like to think that behind every man is an organized woman. That, or a frustrated man because he can't find anything because she is just not organized yet... As is our case. I'm getting there. But since moving in two weeks before the baby was born, its taking me a lot more time to get the house just right when it comes to what goes where. I hope that justifies the fact that the plates change locations bi-weekly. (Love you Adam!) But honestly, storage has been a problem in my organizational quest. The kitchen doesn't have much, and so something had to be done. Our whatever closet consisted of just that. Whatever fits, whatever didn't have a place yet, and whatever else you could think of. Extra flooring, the crock pot, tea towels... Whatever. It became my mission to convert this into our kitchen pantry. Even though it was down the stair from the kitchen. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! So I stripped it down to nothing and started with a few coats of paint. I find that It's best to start with a blank canvas and go from there. We had some random MDF lying around so I chop sawed it up, and it became the supports for the shelves we picked up this weekend at Home Depot. Side note: Did you know Home Depot can make the cuts for you? I told the guy that the shelves had to be 30.5" wide and boom. Done and done. Which really helps because I don't have a table saw. Yet.... I painted the MDF, and then popped the shelves in. With the help of the dude at Home Depot, my power drill, a level and a tape measure, this was what the plan became. Now, I know most people don't see the insides of other people's pantries, but I'm blogging about mine, so the least I could do is make it presentable. I'm also glad that our lovely vacuum cleaner now has a place it can call home. I use it every day, thanks to Bocephus, the dog that sheds garbage bags of hair. Every single day. So with my overuse of the vacuum, I had needed a place to keep it, with very easy access. Before the pantry, it lived in the spare room. Sorry company! Now, if you come to our house, you don't have to sleep next to a vacuum cleaner. (For the record, I usually moved it to the laundry room, unless you were my brother) Hope you enjoyed reading, and I hope it gives you some inspiration to clean out those skeletons or whatever in your closet. Or the old man halloween costume that still has a few years before it becomes bones. Jena xo Rope Handles Basket design by Twos Company - $65.63 from: Burke Decor LLC |
