Lately, I know I haven't been writing as often because I've just been enjoying my time with my crazy and fun family. And that's not to say we haven't been doing projects, because we have! From gardening to pouring footings, our yard has gone from clean to messy to clean, and now we are back to messy again! But the things we all do to our houses are to make our homes happier, healthier and more "user friendly". Sometimes it's overwhelming, but I look forward to sharing some more of some ongoing projects. It may take a while, but at least it's progress into how we want our homes to be. I won't show you my blistered hands, but I will give you a sneak peak into some of the projects we've been working on. Any guesses on what we are up to??
Now that it's officially summer, what are some projects you are about to dive into? Happy Summer Days! xo Jena

For those of you who were expecting pictures of our installed fireplace, I instead present to you WHY we are getting a fireplace installed. While I have to laugh at American news grabbing breaking footage of someone snowblowing a 1/2" of snow, I am becoming more convinced that there is such thing as a polar vortex (as compared to just another winter), here are some photos to convince you too.
If that doesn't want to make you curl up in front of a fireplace, I don't know if your head is on straight. I have chicken skin (aka goose bumps) just looking at these pictures. I haven't even gone outside yet! Don't get me wrong, I do love the snow. That is why I moved to this town. But with a new kid who isn't quite ready to hit the ski hill with his parents, we haven't been able to enjoy the snow as much the past two winters. So this year, when we have a foot of snow overnight... and then another foot of snow over night again, I can honestly say that I'm ready for summer. I really am. And this commercial? Ya, I can relate.
Happy Winter Living, my friends! xo Jena I think a huge part of why TOMS has been so successful is that people really do want to give back. Ten million shoes sold, and ten million shoes given away. They are cute, and they make you feel good about your purchase. It's karma, if nothing else. Good work, With its Giving Partners and customers like you, TOMS has transformed everyday purchases into a force for good. Every time you purchase eyewear, TOMS helps give sight to someone who needs prescription glasses or medical treatment. And with every pair of shoes you buy, TOMS gives a new pair to a child in need. To date, that's over 10 million pairs!
Feel good about what you buy, because we all know that money can't buy you happiness. At least you can feel good about where your money goes. And if you aren't in the mood for shopping, check out out a worthy cause to spend some money on. My suggestion? Kendra Wiberg could use some help. Love and prayers to her and her family. We never know when our days can end. Make the most of it, and maybe we can learn something from living like it could be our last day.
Happy Living and Giving! xo Jena My favourite thing about the new year is the fact that it's just that- a new year; a clean slate. It's mostly in my head, but just the chance to mentally hit reset is kind of a nice thing to do. Everyone loves setting those New Years resolutions! And promptly breaking them.
Resolutions or not, we have started back on the home improvement train since the new year. I've finished a few projects that have been somewhat un-blog worthy, but they have now been crossed off the never ending list. For instance, our upstairs bathroom now has baseboards. Thanks to my little helper! A few projects that have been happening? I have some little ones, like a quick closet make over, a chair make over, the spice cabinet make over. To name a few...
I scored these restaurant chairs for the office at my work, and with an outdoor table cloth, these pink beauties got a fun update. And they are actually pretty cute! And cute goes a long way when you work at a sawmill.... I had been wanting to do this one for a long time. I had originally been reusing old glass jars for our spices, which worked okay, but they didn't stack well. So I went out and got a case of the smaller sized mason jars. The spice cupboard was absolutely packed before, and even though I have the same amount of spices in there, now I can see every spice I need. It's so nice and organized, I could probably double the amount of what I had stuffed in there now. As for the big ones, we have a few in the works. We are heading out of town this weekend to finally look at the fireplace we want. Online shopping just doesn't always cut it for me! And then the downstairs bathroom. Then the laundry room. Then a deck. And last, but certainly not least, the kitchen. Ooooh boy! Looks like this year is going to be another busy one!

Lay it out for your potential employer. I did, and it was a seriously liberating feeling. As much as I scored an interview with this one particular company, it went both ways. What do I want out of this job? It was not as much an interview, as it was a conversation. And there are some important questions that you, as a potential employee, need to ask. Is the company worth my time to go back to work? Are they flexible in my hours? Raising my son is 100% priority, and if a company doesn't allow an employee to put family first, their values are not the same as mine. Thus, that would not be a good match. Does the company interest me? Do I like their long term and short term goals? Would I be excited to explain to someone what I do for work? Working hard at something you believe in and enjoy makes work purposeful and well, enjoyable. Who doesn't want to enjoy their job? Am I a good match for the company? Be honest with yourself, and if it's a job that is just going to put bread and butter on your table, and you're not passionate about it, maybe the next person in line is a better match than you. Passion is what makes you happy with your career anyways, so without it, it's not your perfect job. If you answered yes to all of these questions, you'd better put your best foot forward going in! Chances are, if you are a good match, an employer will see that. On that lovely note, I hope you all have a great day at work. Good news! It is almost the long weekend, and I know I'll need it. I'll be tired from my new job, which I am VERY excited about! More of that later!
