Sneak Peak

One of the most fun parts of a kitchen renovation is knowing that you are going to have a really awesome kitchen at the end of the... experience. 

With know that, you also get the fun of picking our all the new finishes. My favourite part.

Below is a snapshot into what our finished kitchen will consist of. When you get to see it go from this stage (on "paper") to the completed stage is when all the hard work really pays off.

1. Cabinets

Ikea Adel Cabinet Fronts in White. Classic and clean. I love it. Every time I saw kitchens done with these fronts, on Pinterest or in real life, I adored them, so I know I picked out something I will really enjoy for a long time. 

2. Trim

Throughout our house, we went with Benjamin Moore Calm OC-22. I wasn't about to switch up my trim paint so Calm it was. It also is incredibly close in colour to our cabinet fronts, so should something horrible happen and they get dinged, this colour will be rock those dings, I'm sure. 

3. Counters

Countertops were interesting to decide what we wanted to go for. Laminate was basically the only option in our budget. But I wanted to try the new Formica Fx 180 countertops, as they had some really great options. I was torn between two, and easily narrowed it down when one of the options was basically the same as my floor. I mean, if you didn't know where I had thrown down the countertop sample on the floor, you probably wouldn't see it. So Dolce Vita was out and Travertine Silver was in.

4. Paint

Again, we didn't switch up the colours in the kitchen and continued the Benjamin Moore Grey Owl OC-52 in the kitchen. It's such a great colour and even after having it for two years in my house, I still am really happy with the colour. Classic again. 

5. Windows

Although there was nothing wrong with the window in the front, it was old, and it just made sense to replace it with a new one while our kitchen was ripped apart. Apparently, it was the easiest window installation ever. I like hearing things like that, because with my luck, it's not usually the case. We went with aJeld-Wen 3500 Series Slider window because slider windows are my favourite (no handles sticking out or anything). And it was an Energy Star window. Yay. 

6. Artwork

Every new kitchen needs some new art. This custom piece by yours truly was created using the left over paint from every single room in our house. I had so much fun making them (I did a set of three for the kitchen) and when it turned out looking actually cool, I was pretty excited. 

7. Tile

We haven't tiled yet, or even officially decided on it, but we are thinking we are going with a darker tile like Centura Opus Glass tile in Warm Grey or something similar. 

8. Flooring

We managed to work our kitchen floor plan around so we did not need to change our existing flooring (#8- I forget the info for this one), so nothing has changed there. 

9. Flooring

We do need to patch our laminate flooring (#9- Beaulieu Azur in Jasper Walnut) because of the small wall we removed. Luckily, we had two extra boxes of flooring left over, so we are set on that! 

10. Faucet

We found this Cuisinart Cassandra Pull Down Faucet at Canadian Tire. I really like it! It's been a while since we've been in a kitchen that has a pull down faucet, and I forgot how much I liked them. 

11. Sink

The sink was one "battle" I didn't win. I really wanted the modern square sink that Ikea had, but Adam won on this one, thanks to the price tag difference ($349 vs $189). So we went with the Boholmen rather than the Bredskar. I'm okay with it. It's 100 times better than doing dishes in a bathtub.
